Air Rotary & Mud Rotary Drilling

M&W Drilling operates a versatile fleet of truck- and track-mounted air and mud rotary rigs with onboard air compressors. We cut our teeth in the geothermal fields, drilling millions of feet with rotary methods. That experience still drives how we operate today. Our crews are among the most experienced, delivering boreholes drilled to spec in both hard bedrock and loose formations.

About M&W's Air & Mud Rotary Drilling Services

Air rotary drilling is a drilling method that uses compressed air to circulate cuttings out of the borehole while a rotating drill bit advances through the formation. It is commonly used in hard rock where speed and clean cuttings removal are critical.

Mud rotary drilling uses drilling fluid (mud) to stabilize the borehole and circulate cuttings to the surface while drilling progresses. This method is ideal in loose, saturated, or caving formations where maintaining borehole stability is the priority.

M&W Drilling routinely drills through a wide range of ground conditions, including:

  • Bedrock formations (using air rotary for fast penetration and clean cuttings removal)
  • Glacial till
  • Mixed overburden
  • Sands
  • Clays
  • Silts
  • Fill material
Yes. With both truck- and track-mounted rotary rigs, M&W Drilling can mobilize into remote or hard-to-access areas and maintain productivity in challenging terrain.

Air and mud rotary drilling are commonly used for deep monitoring wells, dewatering wells, and high-capacity water wells. M&W Drilling uses air and mud rotary drilling methods to install a wide range of well types, including:

  • Single-, double-, and triple-cased wells
  • Dewatering wells
  • Extraction and recovery wells
  • Residential water wells
  • Commercial water wells
  • Industrial water wells
  • Irrigation water wells
